Mass Volunteer

Are you called to serve?

Altar Server: Youth are invited to start serving at the beginning of their fifth grade year. Training is typically done in the late Fall, or it can be done anytime by appointment. Servers assist at the Lord’s table on weekends, Holy Day Masses, and, for children in the St. John Vianney School, all school Masses.

Reader: Proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word.  The ability to read well in front of large groups, a commitment to preparation, and a willingness to proclaim the Word to the assembly are required.  Materials to assist in preparation are provided to each reader.

Hospitality: Create a hospitable environment before Mass by welcoming people, helping with coats and directions, and assisting with finding seating.  They also help with the offertory collection, processional directions, handing out bulletins, and anything else that affects the well-being of the worshipers.  Individuals, couples, and families are all eligible for this service.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Responsible for helping the priest and deacon to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass.  A person interested in this ministry must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist and be a regularly practicing parishioner.

Sacristan: Sacristans work behind the scenes to ensure that everything is prepared for the liturgy and that our celebrations run smoothly. They prepare the sacred vessels, linens, and vestments needed for the liturgy and also clean and put away all items afterward.

Music Ministry: Our parish has three choirs, numerous cantors, and accompanists. The musicians help lead the assembly in singing. This can include prelude music before Mass, hymns, Mass parts, and the Responsorial Psalm.  With One Voice choir practices on Thursday evenings. The Holy Family choir also practices on Thursday evenings. Spirit Wind choir practices on Monday evenings. The choirs usually sing two to three times monthly at Saturday or Sunday Masses at St. John Vianney.

Art and Environment: This department is responsible for decorating the church, especially during key seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: This is an opportunity for children grades K-3 to be dismissed during the 8:30 a.m. Mass and gather with leaders to hear the Word of God in an age-appropriate setting. If you enjoy working with children, this is for you. Artists and musicians are also needed for this service.
