Are you called to serve?

Altar Server: Youth are invited to start serving at the beginning of their fifth grade year.  Training is typically done in the late Fall or it can be done anytime by appointment.  Servers assist at the Lord’s table on weekends, Holy Day Masses and for children in the St. John Vianney School they can also serve at all school Masses.

Reader: Proclaim the Word of God during the Liturgy of the Word.  The ability to read well in front of large groups, a commitment to preparation and a willingness to proclaim the Word to the assembly are required.  Materials to assist in preparation are provided to each reader.

Hospitality: Create a hospitable environment before Mass by welcoming people, helping with coats and direction, and assistance with finding seating.  They also help with the offertory collection, processional directions, handing out bulletins and anything else that affects the well-being of the worshipers.  Individuals, couples, families are all eligible for this service.

Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: Responsible for helping the priest and deacon to distribute the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass.  A person interested in this ministry must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, and be a regularly practicing parishioner.

Sacristan: Work behind the scenes to ensure that everything is prepared for the liturgy and our celebrations run smoothly. Sacristans prepare the sacred vessels, linens and vestments needed for the liturgy and also clean and put away all items afterward.

Music Ministry: Our parish has three choirs, numerous cantors and accompanists. The musicians help lead the assembly in singing. This can include prelude music before Mass, hymns, Mass parts and the Responsorial Psalm.  With One Voice choir practices on Thursday evenings. Holy Family choir also practices on Thursday evenings. Spirit Wind choir practices on Tuesday evenings. The choirs usually sing two to three times a month at either Saturday and Sunday Masses at St. John Vianney.

Art and Environment: Responsible for the decorating of the church especially during key seasons such as Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: An opportunity for children grades K-3 to be dismissed during the 8:30 am Mass and gather with leaders to hear the Word of God in an age appropriate setting.  If you enjoy working with children this is for you. Artists and musicians are also needed for this service.
